Custom Draperies – A Resounding Comeback

I love my work as an interior designer.  It allows me to meet so many interesting people and work with them in their homes.  It is rewarding when a project starts to come together and moves from idea to reality.  Draperies that some have scorned for years are having a resounding comeback.  Clients are beginning to understand how much that they really enhance their home and give it an originality and finished feel.

The following is a job that I had the great pleasure of working on with a wonderful lady in a fabulous home.  These are the beginnings with more to come.

Here is a new custom drapery installation for a client in north Scottsdale.  This shows the beginning of a job, where the draperies were just installed.

We wanted to give the impression that the windows much taller than they were in reality.  We had a lot of wall space above and so we placed the draperies high enough on the wall but not so high as to diminish the ceiling detail.

Note the over-sized rods and the extra long tie back.  The upholstery length and weight bouillon fringe gives a detail of opulence and drama.  I always have the draperies lined and inner lined so that this silk fabric hangs to enhance it’s dramatic effect.

I believe draperies add a detail to a window like a frame to a picture.  These additions add the final touches to a room that enhances it’s overall ambiance.

Notice in the photo on the left, you can see the bouillon fringe and details that are somewhat difficult to make out in the first photo.  We used custom rods that are over-sized, silk fabric, silk and cotton trims and eight inch hems and headings.  This gives the scale necessary for a beautiful old world traditional room.  I love the attention that is paid to the details by the workroom.  The seamstresses definitely created a outré window treatment matching the plaid to perfection.  This photo of these custom drapes at my clients Scottsdale home can only hint at the beauty to behold.
